OFSTED celebration for NHS service for children in Worcestershire
Osborne Court, a respite unit in Malvern run by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, has been described as a “fun, safe and caring service” following their latest OFSTED inspection.
In the report published last week, parents and external professionals spoke highly of the service and its staff, adding that the children enjoyed their stays and participated in meaningful activities. It added that children using the service are cared for by committed staff who know them well, are supported and are able to form friendships by attending the unit.
Osborne Court provides overnight stays for up to four children per night between the ages of 2 and 18 years old who have a learning and/or a physical disability and may also have complex behaviour and/or health needs. The service can provide care for up to 10 children and young people at any one time.
There are two units on site; Sir Jules Thorn House which opened in 2000 and Sir Jules Thorn House 2 which opened in 2020. Both units are purpose built to provide the best in terms of safety and facilities to their patients.
Following the inspection, both units have been rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED.
A parent of one of the children using the children’s short breaks service said: ‘my child loves and really looks forward to staying in Osborne Court, they have a great bond with all the staff and always comes home happy. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to trust with one of the most important people in my life. They are always there in an emergency; they go above and beyond to do everything and anything to help.’
Amanda Ewer, Registered Manager of Children’s Replacement Care said: “As Registered Manager I am so fortunate to work with such a fantastic staff team. Their enthusiasm and commitment to the children was evident throughout the inspections and I am really pleased that they have been recognised for this.”
Claire Wilson, Matron at Osborne Court said: “I am so immensely proud of the team at Osborne Court, they are so positive and care so passionately about the children who use our service. The OFSTED rating recognises all the hard work that the team put in, and it’s great that this has been recognised. The children have such a fun time when they come and stay with us. The team provide an excellent service, and I am lucky to be a small part of that.”
