Staff benefits

Staff clapping at the staff awards night

At Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, your wellbeing is very important to us and we want you to feel valued. In addition to the generous NHS Pension Scheme, we offer a comprehensive staff benefits package:

Car lease scheme

For a fixed monthly amount, you can get a brand-new car and then everything else is sorted out for you, including insurance, road tax, replacement tyres, servicing, MOT and breakdown. There’s certain eligibility, but the main one is you are a permanent staff member.

Cycle2Work scheme

Cycling is a great, low cost and healthy way to get around. You can save on other transport costs and know you’re doing your bit for the environment at the same time. Through our Cycle2Work scheme, you choose a bike and any accessories, hire them for an agreed length of time and exchange a set amount of your salary each month. Join our team and you’ll qualify for tax free cycling entitlement.

Flexible and agile working

We know that work-life balance is very important. We always try to accommodate flexible working that suits your needs and the requirements of the service, through arrangements such as annualised hours, home working, compressed hours, special leave, career breaks, and flexible retirement. Where possible, we support a mixture of home working and working from base onsite, as well as hot desking at sites around the two counties.

Free eye tests

Employees who are regular computer users are entitled to a standard eyesight test that is paid for by us.

Free staff parking

We are currently providing free parking for staff on Trust owned car parks.

Health service discounts and perks

By joining us and working in the NHS, you’ll get access to hundreds of discounts and perks from retailers, restaurants, and more across the UK.

Health and wellbeing support

We have developed a comprehensive wellbeing support package, available to all staff. This includes physiotherapy services and 24/7 counselling services, as well as self-help resources and topical wellbeing sessions through our mental health hub. We also hold regular wellbeing festivals and conferences that all staff are invited to, along with health and care sector staff working with our partners across the two counties.

Holidays and annual leave

All NHS staff benefit from generous holiday and annual leave entitlement. When you start working with the Trust, you will receive the following days annual leave allowance (pro-rata for part-timers), plus bank holidays:

  • 27 days

  • After 5 years NHS service, 29 days

  • After 10 years NHS service, 33 days

Learning and development

We want to see you grow and flourish, and there’s lots of development opportunities on offer. We regularly advertise secondments internally, provide lots of online learning resources, and encourage staff to take up training which enhances their career and skills.

Relocation

For certain roles, we can offer new employees (including nurses) who are moving over 30 miles or more a generous relocation package of up to £8000.

If a relocation package is available with the role you are applying for, this will be detailed in the job advert on NHS Jobs.

Reward and Recognition

Every year we recognise and celebrate staff achievements with an awards ceremony evening. There are many categories including Patient Choice award and Team of the Year. The winners, nominated by other staff throughout the year, receive a trophy and a certificate. Inspirational guest speakers are also invited to speak.

Weekly, staff can nominate their colleagues who have gone above and beyond during that week, through our Big Shout Out. These messages are shared with all staff at the end of each week in celebration.

Schwartz Rounds

All trust staff have access to Schwartz Rounds. They provide a structured forum where all staff come together to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare.

Rounds provide a confidential space to reflect on and share experiences.

  • All staff are invited to attend
  • A space to share challenges in a non-judgemental environment
  • Hear colleagues share powerful experiences of working in healthcare
  • CPD accredited

Staff networks

Our staff networks welcome new members and meet regularly to discuss key talking points and ensure fair representation across the trust. They provide support and guidance.
